Just clicking on the hyperlink was enough to let the virus into your computer!

Fortunately I was onto it soon enough (with houscall) and my computer was only partially disabled. then with the help of Comteq, the people who fixed my brother's computer, I was able to find the symantec.com website and download a tool that reversed all the damage the virus had wrought in my computer.... lucky scrape there.

So it just goes to show, the maxim: "Only open files from trusted friends" doesn't even hold here!  these infected emails were sent unintentionally! as soon as I knew this was going on I sent out an email telling everyone to "delete that email!":

hi how are ya? did you receive a strange email from me today?

with the subject: 12 March 2001

and attachment   12March2001.doc.pif

if so please delete it! it's a Trojan virus

I have just been using housecall to help me find and remove it:

http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_pcc.asp

so if you have no other virus removal system present, try that

sorry for the nuisance! good luck!

And then I discovered it was changing itself!!

from subjects of: March 13, I also got replies like:
